10 Things to Help Beat Summer Boredom

It's that time of year again--time for sizzling summer days, chilly nights, cool breezes, and warm rainstorms. For those afternoons when you are all out of ideas, here are 10 activities that are sure to help you beat the heat this summer!

1.  Go swim in a lake.
Check around and see if there are any lakes nearby where you can swim with your kids.  Most of them are free, or at least only make you pay a couple dollars for parking.

2.  Head to the zoo.
This one may be a better activity for a cooler summer day, as animals, like people, tend to be slower and lazier during the hottest days of the summer.

3.  Float a river.
Pull out the old inner tubes, rafts, and canoes and head out into nature for a day!

4.  Enjoy a walk through a greenhouse or city garden.
It is always fun to do a little window shopping for your home garden.

5.  Go to the drive-in.
There aren't many drive-ins open around the nation anymore, so head out on an adventure to find one and have a blast from the past!

6.  Go dancing.
Dancing is a great way to have fun, meet new people, and even get the tiniest bit of a workout! Speaking of which...

7.  Try a new workout regimen.
Working out keeps you happy and healthy, and it's important to vary your workout routine.  Switch it up by trying running, yoga, zumba, swimming, biking--you name it!

8.  Go adventure dining.
Okay, so food is something that is VERY important to me, and I love trying new foods, especially at hole-in-the-wall kind of restaurants. As an alternative, try a new recipe when cooking at home.

9.  Go to an outdoor concert.
Concerts in the park are fun, relaxing, and usually free.  Need I say more?

10.  Learn a new skill.
From painting to playing an instrument, there are so many fun new skills to try. Look up a YouTube tutorial and go for it!
